Union Elections: The Stakes Are High
Presentation of a petition to unionize from your employees is by far the most detrimental of all the events that may arise during this crisis. Once this has been issued, a company finds itself in a fight for its very future. Union success can completely alter the progression of the company. In fact, The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that unionized employee costs are 44% higher than non-union employees.

The chart above does not account for increased costs for:
- Additional human resources staff
- Increased involvement with regulatory agencies
- Added administrative staff for calculating, deducting and documenting employee union dues
- Payment for employees who are called in to cover for other employees in steward or representative positions when they are attending to union business
- Contracting consultants to develop an action plan for a possible work stoppage or strike
- Or wages for short-term replacements if a strike occurs
Research shows that these costs are 35% more than non-union companies.
Normal Methods May Be Forbidden During Covid-19
There is no doubt that the best course of action when facing a petition is to run an aggressive, in-person campaign to convince employees to vote no. But, in this time of self-quarantines, limits on group gatherings, and heavy restrictions on travel, traditional campaign methods may not be possible. Businesses need a unique solution to a unique problem. Virtual campaigning is that solution.
